The
Quilted Jewels template was designed after I had designed and
made the raffle quilt for the Minnesota Quilter’s Inc.
show in June of 2008. The original quilt was made with the rulers
that we are all familiar with in our quilting. I knew simple
template would make the quilt easier to cut out and the original
plan was for five templates to cut the various pieces. Thankfully
I realized that four of the templates could be combined into
one saving time and money.
There are
3 patterns in the series so far. In the future, I’ll
be adding table runners, tote bags and other quilt designs. Since
the diamonds have 60 degree angles, my templates will work with
other rulers that you may already own. There are large 60 degree
triangle rulers available on the market that will be most likely
recommended in future patterns.
An added bonus, discovered after the template was designed,
is that if fits perfectly, corner to corner, on five inch charm
squares available from many of the fabric companies. Four paks
of charms make a nice size throw quilt using the I-Spy Diamonds
pattern. Just add framing fabrics and borders!
Cutting is
easy! The large diamond (The Big One, as it’s
called in the pattern) can be ‘fussy cut’ or cut
from a 3-1/2” strip of fabric. The smaller pieces (A,B,C, & D)
can be cut from 2” strips. |
